1 Find Your Niche

Before you start your blog, you will want to know who your readers will be.

You can do this by deciding on a niche for your blog.

A niche is defined as denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population.

Deciding on a niche will make it easier for you to create valuable content for a group of people who are interested in what you are selling.

This step will help you to develop strategic strategies that will help you to reach your unique goals.

Read FIND YOUR NICHE for helpful information to help you with your niche.

2 Choose a Domain

Before you can start writing articles and posting them, you will need to purchase a domain name. A domain name is an address for people to find your content.

Two popular sites that sell domain names and provide hosting for WordPress blogs are Hostgator and BlueHost.

When you are deciding on a domain name make sure that it is something that is easy to remember for your audience and a name that best fits your brand.

3 Decide on a Blogging Platform

A blogging platform is what your blog will run on. You have the choice between hosting and self-hosting platforms.

If you want a free simple blog that you do not have a lot of control over, I recommend Blogger.

Blogger is user-friendly and has a limited amount of templates that you can choose from.

I used blogger in the past and changed it over to WordPress because of how limited blogger is. I will only use WordPress for my blogging and website platforms from now on.

With a WordPress platform, I own it and am in total control of the look and feel. I also have a personalized domain name that makes it look more professional.

When you use blogger, the domain name that you choose will have “blogger” included in it. For example, http://www.YOUR The at the end of the URL makes it look unprofessional and it will be more difficult for people to remember.

If you are building an art business with your blog, I highly recommend using WordPress for your platform.

You will need to purchase a domain name and a hosting service when you use WordPress.

I use and recommend HostGator to buy your domain and hosting. They offer great prices with excellent customer service. If you ever need assistance, they will be more than happy to help you fix the problem.

With HostGator, you can have a WordPress blog up in less than 15 minutes.

4 Brand Your Blog

If you do not have your brand yet read the articles below to help you build your artist brand. Your brand will help people to recognize and remember you as an artist.

After you have your WordPress site up, it is time to brand your blog. This is where you will be able to create the perfect look and feel for your business.

You will be able to choose from thousands of WordPress themes to help you to build your brand and make the perfect site for your business.

I use and recommend purchasing a premium theme.

Premium themes are more secure and offer more customizable features. Basically, they are built better.

I use and highly recommend StudioPress Themes. There are many more companies that offer premium themes but you might want to consider looking at StudioPress Themes first. Research some other sites as well, then you will be able to make the best decision for your goals and business.

5 Write Your First Post.
