Are you having a tough time staying focused on what needs to get done for your art business? In this post, I am going to share with you some tips on how to keep the fire burning by scheduling in some fun time.
Schedule Fun Time
Finding time for fun in your busy life can often be overlooked. You need to take some time just for yourself to recharge your batteries. If you don’t you will find yourself burning out.
Professional artists work around the clock just like any business owners.
Business owners have a passion for what they do. That is one reason they work around the clock. They also have a burning desire to succeed and have their business grow. Unfortunately, all work and no play can lead to a whole host of problems. Burnout, stress, fatigue, mental and physical health issues are to name just a few.
Schedule fun time; for your health and the health of your business.
Schedule Fun Time Weekly
Schedule time to recharge yourself, not monthly, not annually but weekly.
This could be a special day with your family or friends. You do not have to make plans for the entire day. It could be just a few hours. Maybe a dinner or movie with a friend or spouse.
Schedule some relax time every week to help you unwind and get your mind off of work.
This can be difficult for some people. In the beginning, I found it very difficult. I can still hear my grandfather and father tell me, “Take the work while it is here, it might not be here tomorrow.”
They both owned their own businesses and they were right on what they were telling me. However, you have to decide on what will be more rewarding for you. Will an extra ten dollars be worth five extra hours of your life?
Every situation you face will be different. Take some time to decide on what actions will be best for you, your business and your family.
Work and Live in the Moment
When you’re working, give it your best effort every minute. Strive to stay on track and accomplish every task that needs to be accomplished.
Do not procrastinate. Procrastinating only leads to extra work hours that you could be spending with your family.
It will be time to play when you get all of your work done. This is when you can have fun and let go.
When you are not working don’t think about work or what you could or should be doing. For most of my life, I have found myself thinking about work when I was not at work. It took a lot of effort for me to stop doing that and enjoy what is happening around me know. I can honestly say that it sure feels great to just let go and enjoy the simple things in life.
Living in the moment is something that takes practice; however, the rewards are well worth it. Your time will be much more rewarding, productive and enjoyable whether you’re working or playing.
If you are working you are working. If you are playing you are playing.
Give yourself more than just a pat on the back for a job well done. Reward yourself. Do the things you enjoy doing. If you love dancing, go dancing. If you love hiking in the woods, go hiking in the woods.
List the things you like/want to do that are fun, and do them. Just like you’d make a task list and check things off as you accomplish them, make a list of the fun things you like and want to do and check them off as you do them. A bucket list gives you something to look forward to and to motivate you to work harder during your working hours.
Experts from around the world and the most successful people you’ve ever met do take the time to have fun. Schedule fun time and watch your business grow. Plan it into your day, your week, your month and your year. You’re a business owner, and that gives you the freedom to take vacations when you want to, to take a day off when you want to and to have a little bit of fun right smack dab in the middle of the day without risking your job or angering your boss. You are the boss. You work hard, right? Play hard too. Your family, friends and your sanity will thank you for it.
