Top 10 Ways To Refine Your Social Media Presence In 2019
As an artist, social media is an opportunity and a burden. On the one hand, there’s definitely a sense in which it’s too valuable a resource to ignore, with the ability to share and promote work whilst connecting with your userbase. On the other, it’s complex and can feel futile. So here are some ways in which you can get the best out of your social media.
- Maintain A Good Balance
In social media, a lot of companies get things completely wrong, pushing marketing too hard, seeing it as an advertising platform. It’s not! Keep a healthy balance of sharing social things and peppering it with a bit of self-promotion. Some people use an 80/20 rule, to maintain that sense of balance.
- Connect With Fans
If you’re a huge star this could be hard. Otherwise, it’s vital. Respond to every message, lots of comments and react to what people are saying in your posts. This will draw you close to your fanbase and ensure their loyalty and continued affection.
- Make Time
Social Media can definitely feel like a burden a lot of the time. It takes time to craft and upload posts and even more time to respond to messages and comments. So, make a schedule. Scheduling uploads and fan interaction is a good plan so that it doesn’t seep into the rest of your week and feel all-consuming.
- Post Frequently
Posting often keeps you on peoples’ minds and gives them a lot of content to enjoy if they like you and your feed. It, again, can feel like a lot of work but you ought to be posting often.
- Post Consistently
This is subtly different from number four. Posting consistently might involve picking 3 days of the week on which you particularly want to post and hitting every single week without fail. The added benefit of posting with consistency… is that you are able to alleviate some of the feelings that your life is dominated by posts. The consistency makes it like a part of your workweek, something you and your fans will look forward to.
- Speak Personally
Even if you see social media as nothing more than something you have to do, you still should see it as a personal space, where you can express yourself and your opinions freely. It will make your followers feel more connected to you.
- Do Giveaways and Contests
Raise your engagement with your followers by hosting interactive events through social media. You can give away signed work to three people in the comments of a post, for example. It will boost your profile and be fun at the same time.
- Get Your Hashtags Right
This can mean a lot of things but, in general, hashtags are important to social media. Get your hashtags right by aligning your work with certain hashtags so that general art fans will find it as they browse.
- Create Your Own Hashtag
The step up from number eight is creating and using a distinctive hashtag that you and your fans can use to share and communicate things about you and your art. Make it something fun, an in-joke or subtle reference.
You ought to be on a whole range of social media platforms, doing different things on each. Get Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Agree to yourself not to let it be a chore and find ways to use this immensely valuable resource to your advantage. What’s more, done right, it will be a bit of fun as well and a good way to connect with your fan base and display your art.
