Running an art business is a rewarding career.  However, your days will be filled with putting out fires. For a business to be successful, there are many layers that need to be accomplished on a daily basis. When you are tired is when mistakes will occur. 

Creating a loyal following for your art business will be part of your daily work plan.

The list might look overwhelming and can be if you are not organized and have good time management skills.

Content Marketing describes content marketing as:

Developing a content marketing strategy will be an important part of your digital marketing strategy.

The artists you see all over the internet are the artists who learned how to create a content marketing strategy that attracts their target audience.

Content starts with high-quality blog posts.

The next step is to promote your blog post on all of your social media networks and email list.

This strategy will drive a large amount of traffic to your artist blog where your audience can purchase your artwork.

Proofread Your Article Before You Hit Publish

Writing content about your business is important for both attracting a new audience as well as building trust with your audience. Making sure that your work is accurate is just as important. Simple spelling errors and grammar errors could ruin your brand. You do not have to be an English Major to be a great writer. You do however want to reduce as many mistakes that you can.

Here are some tips that will help you to reduce errors in your posts.

Proofread Your Article – Hire an Editor 

Every great writer has an editor. It is very easy for a writer to look at his/her work and miss simple mistakes. Their mind corrects any errors that are there because they created it and know what it should be. I once heard that the first and last letter is the most important letters in a word. The reader’s minds correct any misspellings and are able to understand the text that was written.

Even though that might be true, everything that you share with the public is a reflection of your brand.

An editor has fresh eyes that will be able to see mistakes easier than you will. You might not be able to hire an editor at first. Ask someone you know that is good at spelling and grammar to help you.  You might have a friend, relative or spouse that would be that happy to give you a helping hand.

Proofread Your Article – Resource

A great teacher does not know everything. A great teacher knows where to find the answer.

You will be building authority as you continue to publish posts. People will start to look at you as an expert in your field.

Simple grammar and spelling mistakes will distract your readers and eventually diminish their trust.

You want your audience to absorb your message not be distracted from imperfections.

There are many other options available to help you with your writing skills.

I highly recommend taking some time to learn the art of writing. The content you produce will be one of the reasons you will be selling your artwork online or it will be collecting dust in your closet.


Proofread Your Article – Go Back to Your Article


If you do not have an editor, or even if you do, put your article away and read it at a different time. You will be surprised at how many mistakes that you will find if you proofread your article at a different time.

You will have fresh eyes and a clear mind to be able to properly proofread your article. You might even notice that there is information that you missed and would like to add.

I schedule some time every week to revise older content.

One of the many benefits of having a WordPress artist blog is that you can revise older content.

Revising older content will not only allow you to keep your posts up-to-date but you can check for any mistakes you have missed.

I have to tell you that there has not been one post that I revisited that I didn’t have an error.  No matter if I had someone proofread my post or how many times I have reread the post, there are still mistakes that pop up.

Proofread Your Article – Spellcheck

Run a spell check one last time before you post. I use Grammarly for my spellcheck. 

There are many other tools available for grammar and spellcheck. Find which one you like to work best and use it every time you write a post.

There are many times when I use two or three spellcheck programs. For some reason, every tool will find a mistake that the other tools missed.


Proofread Your Article – Post

The last step is to publish your article. Your article should be at this time ready for your readers. If someone contacts you with errors in your work, welcome it with open arms. Some people take offense to criticism. I look at it differently. I am grateful that someone has taken time out of their day to point something out to me. I can then fix the problem.

Are You Struggling with Your Writing Skills?

If you are struggling with your writing, you might want to consider reading Ann Handley’s book Everybody Writes: Your Go – To Guide to Creating Ridiculously Good Content.

When I first started writing posts and content for my art businesses, I struggled. Writing posts was never one of my strong points. I would sit in front of a blank screen for hours. I knew how important writing content was in order for me to grow my business but I had a difficult time writing even four hundred words.

I remember hearing someone recommending Ann’s book, so I decided to give it a try. Ann’s book has helped me in so many ways and was one of my best investments. Not only did she show me the best means to write for my audience but she also gave me the confidence I needed to write great content my audience would love.

I enjoyed the book so much I also purchased the audiobook and periodically had it on while I am in the studio drawing. I will never claim to be a great writer, but Ann has helped me to get my points and views across to help my audience.


No matter how careful you are at writing your posts, you will make some mistakes.
