You have two options when it comes to starting a blog. You can use a free third-party site like Blogger or you can own your art blog by using WordPress for your platform.
I recommend owning a WordPress blog if you are planning on selling art online long-term. You want to have control of your platform.
I use Host Gator for a hosting service for this site. Host Gator makes it easy to get your site up and running in just minutes. They also provide 24/7 help via phone.
After you have your WordPress up and running you might want to consider taking my WordPress Basics Course to help you get to know how to use the software.

Promote Art On Social Media Networks
There are many social media networks you can use to help build your online presence. The best news is they are all free to join.
The problem you might encounter is the lack of time you will have to make the most out of them.
In order for you to see results, you should focus on only one or two different social media platforms.
Identify where your target audience is and make a presence on those platforms.
Choose One Social Media Platform to Focus On
After you have decided on what platform you will be working with, take some time every week to learn how to market on that particular social media network.
Do not make the same mistake many artists make. They join every social media network and just upload images. After some time passes they get discouraged because they are not landing any sales and they are not building a following.
You will have to develop a different marketing strategy for each social media network you are using. They are all different and you will want to learn what works best for each.

Promote Art With Videos
YouTube ranks number two right after Google for search engines.
What does this information tell you?
It tells us that we can reach a large audience if we create videos about our art and art business.
The good news is that you do not have to spend a large amount of money creating videos anymore. In fact, your smartphone is all you will need to create high-quality videos for YouTube.
Take some time to look at what other artists are doing. See what is working for them and take note of anything you can incorporate into your video marketing strategies.
You might feel uncomfortable at first talking in front of your phone, but I can honestly tell you that it gets easier the more you do it. The hardest part is just starting. Do not be concerned about your first few videos being perfect. They will never be perfect in the beginning. You will be learning along the way and you will start to feel more comfortable as time passes by. You just got to start.
Guest Post On Blogs
Guest posting on other blogs is a great way to build an online presence as well as generating traffic to your own artist blog and website.
Finding blogs to guest post for will take you some time.
Schedule five or ten minutes a day researching blogs that relate to your art.
When you find a few blogs that you would like to write for, send them an email explaining that you would like to be a guest blogger and tell them what you can offer as well as how it will be valuable for their audience.
Your guest post will include a short bio as well as links back to your site. Do not guest post for a blog that does not offer links back to your site. The objective of guest blogging is to build a presence and reach a new audience.
To get started you can submit a guest post to Nevue Fine Art Marketing. Visit Guest Blogging for Nevue Fine Art Marketing for all of the details.
Join in Forums
It takes time for Google and other search engines to start ranking you higher in the search results.
One way that I was able to build an audience was to participate in forums. Two of my favorites are WetCanvas and Quora.
There are many more forums out there. I recommend visiting a few that specialize in your niche.
After you have found the perfect forum take a couple of weeks to become familiar with what people are talking about and their struggles.
After you have an idea of some of the struggles people have, start sharing some valuable information that will help them solve their problems. Always include a link back to your artist blog so they can learn more about you.
It will take some time for people to start noticing you. Soon they will go to you for helpful information.
Write An eBook
Another great way to be viewed as an expert in your field is to write an eBook. There are many topics that artists can write about.
Find something that comes easily to you that is difficult for others. Write an eBook and publish it on Amazon.
This strategy worked well for me. Even though I am not making millions from book sales, I am consistently selling books from Amazon. I also offer downloads of the eBook on this website. This has helped me to reach a new audience that I would not have been able to reach before.
Support Other Artists
I believe that if you help someone you will be rewarded.
Take some time out of your week and comment on other artists blogs.
Do not expect anything back in return. Just try to add value to their posts by commenting on them.
After some time the artist who is writing the blog will take notice and they will start to want to learn more about you.
I have met some great artists throughout this journey and you will too. Most artists are very supportive and are willing to help each other out.
Conclusion:
Marketing your art online does not have to cost you a lot of money. However, it will cost you your time. You will have to put in the hard work if you would like to reap the benefits of selling your art online.
