Do you struggle with time management?

Would you like to sell more artwork, but you feel like you do not have time to create art?

In this post, you will discover the Pomodoro Technique.

If you wonder how artists can accomplish more with limited time available, you will want to try this technique for a couple of weeks.

You will be happy you did.

The Pomodoro Technique

Have you heard of the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. (Source Wikipedia)

I have been using the Pomodoro Technique for many years now and have seen outstanding results.

There seems to be some urgency when you know you only have a limited time to complete a project.

When the timer starts, the mind immediately goes into focus mode.

Staying focused for twenty-five minutes is very reasonable when you know that you will have a short break after the timer goes off.

This technique will work well if you find yourself easily distracted by smartphone notifications, email notifications, text messages, or other distractions.

How Artists Can Accomplish More

I will go over with you the best way to implement the Pomodoro Technique so you can start creating and selling more art this year.

How To Use The Pomodoro Technique

At this point, you should know what your priorities are and have your daily to-do list mapped out.

When it is time to work, take out your to-do list and set a physical timer, stopwatch, smartphone, or computer for twenty-five minutes.

Keep in mind that some projects will take longer than twenty-five minutes to complete. In this case, you will have to repeat the process.

You will want to get yourself mentally prepared for the twenty-five minutes you will be working.

  • Set your timer for twenty-five minutes and get to work.
  • Do not check your emails.
  • Do not answer the phone unless it is an emergency.
  • Do not reply to any texts.
  • Turn off all notifications on your smartphone. Better yet put your smartphone in a different room.
  • Do not visit Facebook or other social media sites.
  • Just work for twenty-five minutes.

Your notifications will be there when you are done working.

Take A Break

Once your stopwatch goes off, stand up, stretch, grab some coffee or some water and take a five-minute break.

Do whatever you want for five minutes. This is your time. Just keep in mind that you only have five minutes.

After the five minutes, get back to work again for another twenty-five minutes.

Repeat the steps outlined until your workday is complete.
