How Hard Is It To Sell On Etsy

Etsy makes it easy to set up an online shop and is a great place to sell handmade items, craft supplies, and vintage items. The challenge is to drive potential buyers to your new listings. With over 4,300 active sellers on Etsy, it is difficult for new Etsy sellers to see their art in Etsy’s feed. Etsy’s algorithm promotes physical items and digital products from top sellers. However, new products do receive a slight boost in the timeline. It is not substantial.

So how can new sellers reach potential customers and sell similar products on Etsy?

Even though you will be competing against an oversaturated online marketplace, Etsy is still well known and has an excellent reputation. Your job is to put in the hard work to get your new products in front of as many people as possible. Established Etsy shop owners do not have to spend as much time advertising their handmade goods, which is positive. The more you promote your Etsy business, the quicker you will start to see positive results.

The competition is tough, and it will take some time to build trust from potential buyers, but once you start to grow your fanbase and get some good ratings, you will be seen as a successful Etsy shop owner.

Optimize Your Etsy Shop For Search Results

A great way to have your Etsy shop seen by more people online is to start with great photos and search engine optimization.

High-quality images for handmade products are crucial for selling products online. The person viewing a listing can only decide what they will purchase from the pictures shown in the description. A potential buyer can not hold a physical product, so the images must accurately resemble the product they will receive if they purchase.

Learning how to photograph your artwork is the first step in building an Etsy following.

The next step is to optimize your listing titles and product descriptions with keywords that potential buyers use in search engines. You can find what keywords people use in Google’s and Etsy’s search bar to find products they are interested in purchasing with tools like SEMRush.

It is a good idea to place the keywords in the front of a title if possible and sprinkle them throughout the Etsy description. Etsy also provides you with up to 13 tags (keywords) to help Etsy showcase your listings to the right buyers.

Blogging And Social Media

After you have listings with high-quality pictures and well-written descriptions, it is a great idea to start blogging about new items in your Etsy shop and promoting them on different social media platforms.

Social media platforms like Facebook and Etsy is an excellent tool to promote your Etsy account and bestsellers, but blogging is how you will build your store name online for the long haul. Blog posts are searchable, unlike a Facebook post or Instagram post. The objective for blogging and promoting on social media is to get as much traffic to your shop as possible so you can land sales and receive feedback.

More Etsy Tips

Some different things to consider for your new Etsy shop is having a reasonable price strategy and provide great customer service. Etsy shoppers expect to pay more for quality handmade products they can not find elsewhere. Still, to start, you will want to consider pricing your work competitively until you built name recognition online. When your products are in demand, then you can increase your selling price.

It is easier to sell new products to people who have already purchased from you rather than finding new customers. The easiest way to have people come back to your shop is to provide the best customer service possible.

The last tip we would like to mention is to offer free shipping if possible. Etsy rewards Etsy sellers who offer free shipping. Include all shipping costs in your selling price, so you do not lower your profit margins by offering free shipping.
