Are you frustrated because it seems like only your friends and family are visiting your online art gallery? Do you have an art blog? In this post, I am going to talk about the importance of good content for your art business.
I hope that after you are finished reading this post you will be motivated to start an art blog. The art blog you build will be the fuel that drives traffic to your website so you can sell your artwork.
The Importance Of Good Content
The internet has changed the way artists market their artwork and is a great tool that will help you build your art business larger than you could have ever imagined. The importance of good content for the growth of your business can not be emphasized enough.
In the past, many people found that they could make money on the internet by creating a web page that was simply a link that encouraged a reader to purchase an item.
Google soon realized that these advertisement web pages frustrated people and created a sophisticated algorithm to weed these web pages out of the search index.
What ranks higher now in the search results are sites that create the best content. The importance of good content cannot be overlooked if you are selling art online.
The success of your website is determined primarily by its content. Ultimately, content wins the wallets of your customers. All other components of your website (design, visuals, videos, etc.) provide a secondary support role. (Source: Intechnic)
Good Content Definition
Useful content should be at the core of your marketing. … Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action. The key words are:
Valuable – Does the post provide value for the reader?
Relevant – Is the post relevant to the title of the post and the brand of the business?
Consistent – Is content being delivered on a consistent schedule?
We know what good content is but what will make a reader revisit a site on a regular basis?
A blog post can only be valuable and relevant if it the reader can understand the text.
If the blog consists of words that will need to be looked up for the definition the writer is not getting their message across. Bottom line the blog has no value.
When a blog has slang that the reader has never heard before, the blog has no value.
If a reader has to read between the lines to understand the meaning of a post, the words have no value.
Good content meaning:
- Easy to remember
Writing blog posts will drive traffic to your site via a Google search but great content will inspire the reader to revisit the site for more value.
Content Marketing Benefits
Now that you know what good content means let’s talk about the benefits of blogging.
Good content will have you:
- Rank higher in the search results
- Build trust with your readers
- Show that you are an expert in your field
- Build your artist brand
- Build brand awareness
- Increase your art sales
The more content that you create, the more, you will be able to grow your business.
Do not be like other artists that post their new art for sale and forget about it.
They are losing potential sales. Instead, create content to have your artwork seen.
I do want to disclose that it does take time for blogs to gain an audience.
There is a lot of content that is being published on a daily basis.
Over 3 million blog posts are published on the Internet every day. (Source: Hosting Facts )
This is why it is important for you to write valuable content consistently.
Rank Higher In The Search Results
Every post that you write and publish is another page that Google and other search engines will index.
This does not mean that you will always receive more search traffic but having more quality content indexed will provide you with extra opportunities to rank for more search queries (what people type in the search bar).
Build Trust With Your Readers
Writing content that reflects your vision and mission will help you to build customer relationships.
Building relationships with your audience important for you as an artist.
You will increase the odds of landing a sale if you can build trust with your audience.

First impressions matter when it comes to building a brand for your art business.
When a visitor reads your content they will have an impression of your brand.
If the reader finds your content valuable they will think highly of your brand and will help you to reach more people by sharing your content with people they know.
Everything we have talked about in this post has a connection to your art sales.
If you write valuable content on a regular schedule and build trust with your audience you will increase your online art sales.
Keep in mind that blogs take time to build.
To give you an idea it has taken me three years to build this blog up. It now receives over 100,00 monthly page views which are helping my mission. To provide one place where artists of all levels can find the answers they need to help them to start, grow and monetize their online art business. To have every artist reach their unique goals.
