  • Pinterest Analytics
  • Rich Pins
  • Pinterest Boards
  • Optimize Pinterest Images

  • Schedule Pinterest Pins
  • Shareable Pins on Art Blogs

When I started my art blog I knew I had to promote the blog as well as my posts, in the beginning, to speed up the growth process.

In time I knew that I would generate most of my traffic from organic search (Google’s search) but while I was waiting for my art blog to rank in the search results I had an opportunity to have my posts seen if I published them on my social media accounts.

I focused on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

I never gave Pinterest a thought and I wish that I did sooner.

When I was starting out I had no idea how much traffic my art blog would receive from Pinterest. If I knew back then what I know now I would have made Pinterest my main priority.

As of today, I receive more traffic from Pinterest than all of the other social media sites combined. That includes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

I highly recommend you to consider promoting your art blog on Pinterest if you are interested in speeding up the growth of your site.

How To Use Pinterest To Drive Traffic To Your Blog

Below are the steps I took to build a successful Pinterest marketing strategy.

Today my blog receives over 50,000 unique page views a month and is projected to receive over 100,000 page views per month within the next six months. (UPDATE: My blog is now receiving over 100,00 unique page views per month)

Pinterest Business Account

If you are planning on using Pinterest to generate traffic to your art blog and sell your artwork (Yes you can sell your art on Pinterest) you will need to set up a Pinterest Business account.

If you already have a personal Pinterest account you can convert it to a business account or you can create a new account.

Once you have your Pinterest business account you will have access to valuable tools including Rich Pins and Pinterest Analytics which will help you to develop a successful Pinterest marketing strategy.

Visit Pinterest’s Creating a Pinterest for Business Account for step by step instructions on how to set up your account.

Setting up your Pinterest Business account is the first step on how to to use Pinterest for business.

Pinterest Analytics

What is Pinterest analytics?

Pinterest analytics is a powerful tool Pinterest offers for business accounts that shows you what people pin from your site and profile.

You can also discover more information about your audience which will help you to write better blog posts.

Studying the information provided by Pinterest’s Analytics will help you to develop a more effective Pinterest marketing strategy.

The end result will be more traffic to your art blog.

Rich Pins

Rich Pins are only available for Pinterest Business Accounts and will help your pins stand out in Pinterest’s newsfeed.

By applying for Rich Pins and being accepted, your pins extra information on your pins which will make them more searchable and easier for people to find your content.

There are four different Rich Pin options you will be able to choose from. The different types of Rich Pins are article pins, recipe pins, product pins, and app pins.

To learn how easy it is to apply and set up Rich Pins visit How to Enable Rich Pins on Pinterest.

The above image is an example of one of my Rich Pins.

The title of the pin is in a bold font which makes the pin stand out and it showcases my Pinterest account which helps me to build brand awareness on Pinterest.

Optimize Your Pinterest Profile

In order for you to have your Pinterest account stand out from the crowd, you will want to put some time into creating a profile that Pinterest will showcase.

This can be done by using keywords that describe your art business and niche.

Your Pinterest Profile should include:

  • Your website URL
  • Your Business name should be the same as your Artist blog, website or business name.
  • Incorporate relevant keywords that describe your art business in the “About You” section of your Pinterest profile.

Pinterest is more like a search engine. Using keywords in your profile will make it possible for people to find you when they are using Pinterest’s search bar.

My website URL is located on the top and the description uses the keywords art business and online art business.

Pinterest Boards

Do some research prior to creating your Pinterest boards.

Type in the keywords that describe your niche into Pinterest’s search bar to find what other people are using.

For example, if you paint horses, type in “horse paintings” to see what comes up.

Suggestions will appear below the search bar. These are common boards you will want to be creating.

When you are creating your boards be sure to use keywords in the description as well.

You will increase the chances of people finding you if you implement relevant keywords in your profile and board descriptions.

Optimize Pinterest Images

Most people mistake Pinterest for a social media network but it is actually a visual search engine. This is one of the reasons why you will start to receive more traffic from Pinterest than you will from Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Because Pinterest is a visual search engine it is important for you to create catchy images for your pins and blog posts.

The size, color, and text you overlay on the image will give you different results.

You will have to experiment to discover what works best for your target audience.

Here are some common practices for successful pins:

  • Warm tone colors
  • The shade of orange, browns, and reds receive twice as many repins than blue tones
  • Light is better than dark
  • Long, tall vertical pins get more repins than short pins

Pinterest Pin Titles

The pin title is the title of your pin, just like the title of your art blog posts.

The Pin title explains what your image is and what type of content a viewer will see if they click on the pin.

You can use up to 100 characters on your Pin title.

The Pin title will be bold and provide more context to your Pins on their feed and search results.

Descriptions

Creating images that attract people is only the first step.

A well-written Pin title and description will help you to close the deal and have someone visit your site and repin your pins.

Crafting detailed descriptions that engage a reader and encourages them to click on the image is the goal.

It is important to use keywords in the description.

The keywords you use in your descriptions will help Pinterest share your pins with your target audience.

Pinterest Group Boards

A great way for you to promote your artist blog and generate traffic is by joining Pinterest Group Boards that relate to your niche.

You can search for group boards in your niche by visiting Pin Groupie.

All you have to do is type your niche in the description box and sort through the results.

When you find something you like click on the name of the group and read the rules of the board and instructions on how to join the group.

Schedule Pinterest Pins

I am always looking for ways to be able to get more work done in less time.

Not too long ago I stumble on Tailwind and I am so happy I did.

Tailwind is an automated pinning tool that allows me to pin more consistently and effectively.

I have seen good results by scheduling 10 – 15 pins per day and manually pin 10 – 15 pins separately.

Just like Facebook, Pinterest likes to see that you are active on their site.

Another good feature Tailwind has is their analytics which allows you to see how your pins and boards are doing.

Sharable Pins On Art Blogs

The last tip I would like to talk about is making it easy for people to share your art blog posts on Pinterest.

Social Warfare is a social share plugin that I found about a year ago.

I could not be happier with the results  I am receiving with Social Warfare.

Some of my art blog posts have generated over 7,000 repins thanks to Social Warfare.

If you are in the market for a social share plugin that will produce real results I recommend you checking out Social Warfare.
