Sorolla & his Approach to Value and Colour ™
‘Sorolla & his Approach to Value and Colour’ will help you understand and apply Sorolla’s
outstanding techniques so that you can create paintings filled with luminosity, vitality and
vibrancy.
In this course, you’ll learn how Sorolla related value to color and how he used advanced
color techniques to interpret and represent the effects of light with so much beauty and poetry.
We are going to dive into his masterworks to understand Sorolla’s process, how he used color
temperature contrast to add vitality and luminosity to his work; How he used a limited tonal
value range to create simple but strong structure on his subject; how to use gesture to develop
a loose brushwork and much more;
Then, by watching the demos and doing the exercises proposed for you there, you’ll learn how
to apply all these techniques.
Value & Value Relationships in Landscape ™
Value & Value Relationships in Landscape™ will help you understand and represent tonal
values well so that you can improve the illusion of form and depth in your landscape.
● You’ve painted some landscapes but you still struggle to create a convincing sense of
landscape space.
● You’ve painted other things as well but somehow this subject presents its own
challenges and that makes you feel stuck without achieving the depth and form you
expected in your landscape.
● You can’t quite understand how to establish enough contrast between the land and the
sky and don’t know how to make objects recede and advance.
With Value & Value Relationships in Landscape™, you’ll learn step-by-step how to improve the
sense of space, form and depth in your landscape so that you can create the stunning
landscape paintings you’ve always dreamed of.
This course is divided into two parts:
PART ONE
In the first part of this course, you’ll learn the core concepts of value & value relationships and
how they form in a landscape.
You’ll discover how to use key concepts like plane differentiation, value divisions and the theory
of angles to relate and modulate values more easily and successfully. That will also teach you
how to paint faster and more loosely.
You’ll do six exercises, in different techniques, to get better at understanding and representing
form and depth through tonal values.
PART TWO
Part Two pushes you to the next level to build your skills to relate value to color.
I’ve developed a Value-Colour Palette System that teaches you how to work with a simple but
strong value structure which is based on the value divisions of your subject. You’ll learn how to
use this system to relate value to color and broaden your full-color palette without losing
coherence.
You will have access to my color diagrams, palette systems, templates and other visuals that
have been designed specifically for this course!
You’ll discover how to apply the core concepts to represent form and depth through value and
color. And you can repeat this method again and again to any landscape painting you create.
How to Start a Painting – From Blank Canvas to Finished Work ™
“How to Start a Painting – From Blank Canvas to Finished Work” will help you understand the
painting process as you learn how to build your painting in eight different stages. You will also
discover how to work with the ‘wet-into-wet’ Alla Prima method to create a painterly approach to
your painting.
In this course, you’ll learn how you can create an oil painting by using an eight-step painting
process, from selecting and assessing your subject to adding final details to your work.
We are going to dive into the stages of a painting, based on the traditional method of the
Grisaille to study tonal values and create a strong foundation to your painting, on the first part of
this course.
You will learn how to mix colors by using the complementary color concept and how to mix
beautiful greys.
Then we apply the ‘massing and simplification concept’ to block-in the big shapes.
On the second part of the course, we move on to the second painting demo in which you will
work with the wet-into-wet method called Alla-Prima to create a loose, painterly approach to
your painting.
Then, by watching the demos and doing the exercises proposed for you there, you’ll learn how
to apply all these techniques.
