How To Manage Widgets On WordPress
A Widget on WordPress performs specific functions and can be designated to different areas of your WordPress site.
There are hundreds of different types of widgets that will make it easy for you to design your site to your liking. Some defaults widgets are navigation menu, search, recent posts, calendar, categories etc.
Widgets can easily be added to your sidebar by dragging and dropping them into the widget area.
Take note that not all Themes support widgets. If you are interested in using widgets in your sidebar make sure that the Theme you are choosing supports them.

Functions on the page:
Active Widgets – These are the widgets that you can add to your sidebar or designated area.
Inactive Sidebar – These can be removed permanently from the widget list. They are not used.
Inactive Widgets – These are widgets that have been removed from the sidebar but are kept in the settings.
Sidebar Main – This is where you can add the widgets you would like to use. The widgets will be displayed on the sidebar of your site.
Some templates will allow you to add widgets in different areas. For example, the Theme I am using allows widgets in the footer.
It is important to note that the sidebar can only be viewed from a PC. If people are viewing your site from a mobile device they will not see the sidebar or the widgets that you are using. Keep this in mind when you are designing your blog.
