WordPress Widgets
A Widget on WordPress performs specific functions and can be designated to different areas of your WordPress site.
There are hundreds of different widgets that will make it easy for you to design your site to your liking. Some defaults widgets are navigation menu, search, recent posts, calendar, categories, text widgets, etc.
Widgets can easily be added to your sidebar by dragging and dropping them into the widget area. The best thing about using a widget is that you don’t need to know HTML code.
Take note that not all Themes support widgets. If you are interested in using widgets in your sidebars, ensure that the WordPress theme you choose supports them. Different themes have different widget areas besides the sidebar option like the footer.
Manage Widgets On WordPress
On the left sidebar, hover over Appearance and click on Widgets.
The following screen will display the available default widgets you can display in your sidebar widget section.
Note: Your screen might look different depending on the Theme you are using.
Functions on the page:
Active Widgets – These are the widgets that you can add to your sidebar or designated area.
Inactive Sidebar – These can be removed permanently from the widget list. They are not used.
Inactive Widgets – These are widgets that have been removed from the sidebar but are kept in the settings.
Sidebar Main – This is where you can add the widgets you would like to use. The widgets will be displayed on the sidebar of your site.
Some templates will allow you to add widgets in different areas. For example, the Theme we use allows widgets in the footer.
It is important to note that the sidebar can only be viewed from a PC. If people are viewing your site from a mobile device they will not see the sidebar or the widgets that you are using. Keep this in mind when you are designing your blog.
How To Deactivate Widgets In WordPress
With WordPress, you can easily remove any kind of widget from your website. By default, any widgets you add are activated on your blog or website. When you’re ready to remove a widget, you just need to drag and drop the desired widget from the active area to the available widgets area.
You also click on the widget you want to remove and click delete. This will remove the widget from the active widget area.
