There is nothing more frustrating than spending endless hours on blog posts that will never be seen.

You spend time finding your niche.

You spend endless hours finding and learning how to communicate with your target audience.

You have joined all of the other artists taking the 28 Day Blogging Challenge for Visual artists.

You do this because you understand that you can reach millions of people around the word blogging.

The frustration comes in when you realize your click-through rate is low and people are not reading the content you have written or viewed the art you have posted.

What is a click-through rate?

A click-through rate is the percentage of people visiting a web page who access a hypertext link via the search engines, social media, or email.

Today we are going to talk about how you can increase your click-through rate in the search engines by creating snippets.

What Is A Snippet

In order for you to optimize your art blog posts with snippets, you must first understand what a snippet is.

A snippet is a description under the hyperlink in the search results.

The top text in the search results is a title tag.

Underneath the title tag is the URL of the post.

Underneath the URL is the snippet (meta description).

You have probably read many snippets in the past when you were doing a search.

Most people read the snippet prior to clicking on a link. If the meta description (snippet) describes something the reader is interested in learning more about, they will click on the link and will be directed to the post or a website’s page.

Add your snippet (description of the post) in the Meta Description field.

Click Close Snippet Editor when you are finished adding in your meta description.

Tips For Optimizing Meta Descriptions

  • Accepted length is 156 characters.
  • Describe the content of the post.
  • Do not miss lead the reader.
  • Include keywords.
  • Inspire interest.
  • Do not use quotation marks.

What Happens If I Don’t Add A Meta Description

You do not have to write a meta description into the Yoast’s Snippet field.

If you choose not to, Google and other search engines will decide what to add to the meta description.

Allowing the search engines to add text in the meta description might lower your click-through rate.

Sometimes the description search engines provide does not make sense or it does not accurately describe the content.

If the description does not catch the reader’s attention they will scroll down to the next link.

Yoast makes it easy for you to have control of what will be displayed in the snippet area.

Conclusion:

You spend a great deal of time on your content writing.

Spend a few moments to write a description that will intrigue your audience.

You will increase the chance of landing sales by driving more traffic to your site.
