Are you interested in selling your art online? In order for you to be successful, you will have to learn how to market yourself. In this post, you will discover how to become an expert in marketing your art.
How To Become An Expert In Marketing Your Art
Why do artists have to be concerned with learning how to market their art online?
The answer is simple, art does not sell itself. Before the internet artists would rely on art galleries or hire people to market and represent their artwork. They didn’t have to worry about the business side of being an artist.
It might sound better to not have to worry about marketing, but everything has a negative side to it. Many artists never had a chance to sell their artwork before the internet came along. Maybe their art was not accepted in their local art gallery or they could not find someone to represent their art. Maybe their art didn’t do well at craft shows because it was not the right subject for their demographic. Also, you have to take in consideration how much money they spent on every piece of art that was sold. Many artists would be lucky if the received half of the amount the art was sold for.
Maybe taking the time to learn how to market your art is not that bad after all.
According to Statista, “The estimated value of the online art market worldwide will reach 9.14 billion dollars by 2021.
This statistic clearly shows that people feel comfortable purchasing art online.
According to World Internet User Stats, there are over 3,800,000,000 people around the world using the internet.
Let’s think about that for a minute.
Would you rather stand behind a table at a craft show that might generate a few hundred people? Or would you like to spend time learning how to market your art to over 3 billion people worldwide?
It is safe to say that not everyone will be a fan of your art, but you will have a better chance of finding people who would love to purchase your art online.
Two Marketing Facts
- Anyone can learn how to market.
- Marketing is essential for businesses. (If you are selling art you are running a business.)
I am an artist and I also love the marketing side. I have always been fascinated with the business side. I enjoy trying different ideas to see what works and what doesn’t. It is very gratifying for me to watch my business grow because I broke the code. It is like solving a puzzle.
When you see your business grow, you too will feel a sense of accomplishment too. How could you not? You started with a dream and you followed through until you were selling your artwork.
Marketing Is Essential
I totally understand that most people do not enjoy marketing and business as much as I do.
That is one reason I have started this website, written eBooks and created courses, so I can help the artists who are not fond of marketing. By providing up-to-date marketing strategies, I am able to help artists succeed and live their dreams.
Why do I put all of this energy into creating content to help other artists?
Because I love to watch people succeed. I want you to sell your art. I want you to be successful. I also know the importance of marketing.
A business is started in hopes to generate more income than the cost of expenses to operate the business. This is also known as a profit. Basically, it will be your paycheck.
Businesses can generate income by selling products or offering a service. As an artist, you can provide both if you desire to.
How do you get people to purchase your art or services?
You have to make people aware of your art and services. You have to tell people in person that you are an artist as well as find a way to have people visit your online art gallery and art blog. You are not being a salesperson, you are just making people aware of what you have to offer. If they are interested in what you have to offer, they will make a purchase.
How To Operate A Successful Art Business
- Produce a product or service that you will sell.
- Generate a profit. (Spend less than you are generating.)
- Make people aware of your products and services.
- Stay true to your mission and vision.
It sounds simple, doesn’t it?
It is simple. Create art. Find people who are interested in your artistic style. Make them aware of what you have to offer. Spend less than you make.
You Are Not A Salesperson
Many artists shy away from marketing because they do not want to be pushy or untrustworthy. That is the stereotype of a salesperson. You are not a salesperson. You are a marketer. You are just making people aware of your art and or services. They will make the decision to make a purchase or not. You are not trying to convince them to buy your art.
How can you increase the percentage of landing a sale? The answer is easier than the work involved. You have to find people who are interested in your message and art style. This is known as your target audience. With almost 4 billion people on the internet, you will have to put some time into finding where they are.
You Are A Marketer
Did you know that you are already a marketer?
- Whenever you show someone a finished piece of art you just created, you’re marketing.
- Whenever you tell someone you create art, you’re marketing.
- Whenever you upload an image of your art on Facebook, you’re marketing.
- Whenever you tell someone you sell art, you’re marketing.
These are things that you probably do every day and you’re good at it. Why? Because you didn’t realize you are marketing your art. You are only sharing your story. (That is marketing.)
