What Are Hyperlinks
A hyperlink is a link from a hypertext document or file. Clicking on the active link will redirect you to that content.
Hypertext is content that is able to be shared via clickable links on web pages or documents.
Hyperlinks can be a word, phrase, or button. When you click the link you will be directed to a different post or page. Text that is an active link is usually blue. It is possible to change the color of the link but most people recognize a link because of its blue color.
How To Add A Link In WordPress
To create a link in WordPress, login to your WordPress Dashboard.
Open the post or page and find the text you want to link. Highlight the word or phrase by left-clicking over the words.
Click the Insert/Edit Link Button on the visual editor.
In the pop-up window:
Paste the URL you wish to link to. The URL is the address of a specific page or post.
You can have the page you are linking to opened in a new tab by checking the box.
When a person clicks on the link a new tab will open for them with the content that you are linking to. Your blog tab will still be open for them to go back to when they are finished reading the content.
If you leave the box unchecked the viewer will leave your page and go to the site you are linking to.
You can also search for a post or scroll down from the list of posts that you have written. This allows you to link to content that you have already written that is relevant to the new content.
When you are finished click Add Link on the bottom of the pop-up.
A quicker way to add links in WordPress is to paste the URL onto the desired anchor text you want to add a link to.
Simply copy the URL you wish to link to, highlight the text in your post, right-click and select paste. You can also use the shortcut Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac) to paste the URL.
WordPress will detect you are posting a URL and turn the text into a hyperlink.
This works for the classic editor and the Gutenberg editor.

Select the post or page you want to add to your menu then click Add To Menu.
You can rearrange the location after you click Add To Menue.
When you are finished with the changes, click Save.
What Are The Benefits Of Adding Links
You will hear both positive and negative thoughts about linking to other sites. In my opinion, you want to give your readers the best content you possibly can. Adding content that backs up the content of your posts will only enhance the quality of your work.
Readers revisit sites because the site is producing content that is solving a problem or struggle they might have.
When you link to other sources, you are providing the best content for your audience. Not only will your reader benefit from your thoughts but they will also get additional information from other experts.
Your readers will feel confident going to your site for specific information your site publishes.
Rand Fishkin wrote about the benefits of linking to other sites in the post 5 Reasons You Should Link Out to Others From Your Website.
Rand explained:
“No matter how great a website you build, you can never be all things to all people, nor contain all the relevant information & value a user might be seeking on your given topic. As such, it makes great sense to leverage the power of the web – the power of links – to create an easy, scalable path to making your site’s experience better and more rewarding for those who visit.”
Linking to content you have already written about is also very powerful.
Many people skim through blog posts to find a solution to a problem. Most readers do not read every word.
Including links to articles that are more detailed about particular topics will help to keep your posts more scannable and easier for your readers to find what they are searching for. Creating pillar posts that include internal links will produce a better experience for your audience.
