Have you thought about making videos that will promote your art? Do you think that it would cost too much money to create a video? In this blog, I will share with you the reason you should build an art audience with videos.

Why should you be so concerned about creating videos to market your artwork online?

Video statistics you need to know:

By 2017, online video will account for 74% of all online traffic – Source KBCB

YouTube has over a billion users, almost one-third of all people on the internet – Source YouTube

Visits Wordstreams post, 37 Staggering Video Marketing Statistics for 2017 for more reasons you should strongly consider creating videos.

YouTube

I am sure that you have heard of YouTube. YouTube is a site where people can share and watch videos. YouTube was launched in 2005 and has grown to over a billion users.

That is about one-third of internet users.  There are over 4 billion videos watched daily, and the number is growing every year.

Videos are not just popular on YouTube. In fact, they are becoming more popular on Facebook, Vine, Pinterest, and Instagram.

You can target a larger audience with creative videos.

How long should videos be?

Shorter videos tend to rank better than longer videos. This is due to a number of factors.

People are busy. They can watch videos on their model device when they do not have a lot of time to spare. That is one reason that shorter videos perform better than longer videos.

Another reason is that people’s attention spans are becoming shorter. We are living in a fast past world so the best practice is to respect your audience’s time.

This does not mean longer videos will not show positive results.

You might want to consider building a following on YouTube before you start to create longer videos.

Does that mean you have to create short videos?

I think the perfect length for a video is when you are done saying what you were trying to say. You do not want to make a two-minute video into a five-minute video just to make it longer. You will lose the viewers interest if you are just adding filler words. Say what you have to say and end the video.

If you have a large amount of content that you want to share then, the video will need to be longer. You do not want to jeopardize the content just to create a shorter video.

You might want to create short, medium and long videos to attract a wider group of people. If someone likes your shorter videos, they will make the time to watch your longer videos. That is how you can build your art presence with videos.

How much will it cost to create a video?

You might be surprised at what I am going to tell you. The cost to make a video for YouTube is your time. It does not cost a penny if you have a Smart Phone and internet connection. (Of course, you will have to pay for your Smart Phone and internet connection, but you probably already have that.)

To get started your Smart Phone will do. Smart Phones take great videos, and the sound quality is not bad. You can even upload the video from your Smart Phone directly to YouTube.

There are tools that you can get in the future if you enjoy making videos but at first, take out your Smart Phone and start making videos that will attract your target audience.

Video suggestions

You might be wondering what type of videos you should be creating. As an artist, you will have a wide variety of content to share.

Here are some suggestions to help get you started.

How to Videos

You are an expert in your craft. You can make short videos that showcase a technique that you use.

People watch videos because they want to learn or be entertained. The people that like your artistic style would love to watch how you create your artwork. You would also be surprised at how many people that are not artists enjoy watching how art is created.

You can make a series of short videos that explain the techniques that you use for your artistic style.

For example:

  • How to hold your paintbrush.
  • How much paint to apply to your paintbrush.
  • How to prep your canvas.

You can make longer videos on how to create an entire piece.

Materials

You can make videos on the materials that you use to create your art. People always want to learn what the best tools are for a job. You can also give reviews on art supplies. You will help someone who is just starting out by giving your opinion on different art supplies.

Your Art Studio

Make a video about your art studio. Show them tricks that you have learned over the years. Show them how you keep things organized. Show them how your lighting is.

Upcoming Events

Make a video of upcoming events. You can explain what the event is about, the date of the event, and where it will be located. This will be a great advertising tool for you.

Slideshow

Make a slideshow of your art. This is easy to do and will help showcase your work. There are many free online sites that make slideshows.

Conclusion:

You can see that there are many topics that you can use to create videos that will interest people. You can build an art audience with videos by targeting a different crowd. As a working artist, you need to use every tool available to promote your work. Videos should be on top of your list.

Build an Art Audience with videos is easy to do, relatively inexpensive and a great way to build your brand.

Do you use videos to promote your work? What equipment do you use? I would love to hear from you.
