Affordable Ways To Organize Craft Supplies

Here are some ways to organize your art materials without breaking the bank.

Closet Shelves

Utilizing every inch of your art studio, especially if you have a small space to work in, is essential for staying organized. A closet is a great way to store storage containers, giving you more floor space for your creative projects.

Closet shelves can be purchased in a local hardware store or online.

Here are some places to see different types of vertical storage shelves available.

  • Lowes
  • Walmart
  • Wayfair
  • EasyClosets

Shelves in a closet are perfect for storing different baskets, bins, tin cans, and jars filled with paintbrushes, paint bottles, glue sticks, pencils, etc.

If you are handy or know somebody that likes to build things, you can make custom shelves for your supplies. Storing supplies you do not use daily in your closet will open up more art space.

Door Organizers

Door organizers or a hanging shoe rack are a great way to store things like stencils, paper towels, and small jars. You can modify the sizes by cutting the bottom of some of the segments of a shoe organizer to fit more oversized items like construction paper or loose canvases.

The objective is to increase your craft space while quickly grabbing the supplies you need for a project.

Transparent Storage Containers

Clear plastic storage containers are the best way to store small items like rubber bands, paper clips, blending stumps, glitters, paint pens, ink, and other small crafting items. Another great idea is to label the craft storage bins so you do not have to open every container to find what you need. You can also stack the containers on top of each other to free up some room.

Glass Jars

You do not need to spend money on glass or mason jars to store markers, pastel pencils, colored pencils, pens, and paintbrushes. Spaghetti sauce jars and jelly jars work perfectly for storing supplies.

Shelf Space

If you do not have enough space to create your art because of storage bins on the floor, try placing them on shelves. Wall mounting shelves are ideal for lightweight items like open containers, mason jars, and paper towel holders and will not take up any floor space. Freestanding shelves are better for more substantial things like printing paper, books, magazines, storage containers of acrylic paints, and other miscellaneous items.

Pegboards

Another unique craft storage solution for your studio and kids’ art supplies is hanging pegboards on your walls. You can find pegboards in most hardware stores, and they are straightforward to install and is ideal for hanging scissors, small metal pales that hold paint sponges, paint brushes, markers, etc. You can hang baskets on the pegboard to place ribbons and small paper. If you want to reduce clutter off your desks and tables, a pegboard might be the best solution, and finding what you need will be easy because it will all be right in front of you.

Wine Rack

Wine racks are not just for wine. They are also a great art supply organization rack. Just place open jars where the wine bottles go and fill them up with paint pens, colored pencils, pastel pencils, and other tiny items you use daily. If your drafting table is large enough, you can place the wine rack on the table, so everything you need is right in front of you.

Final Thoughts On Art Organizing Ideas

Many artists do not have much space to create art, so keeping the area clean and organized is essential. Nothing can lose a creative spark faster than spending twenty minutes looking for the supplies need for a project. The craft room organization ideas outlined above are not the only way to organize your room, but it is excellent to start. Once you begin to organize your room, you will find ways to make it better for you.
