Are you a part-time artist who is trying to find some extra time to get everything done so you can increase your art sales? In this post, you will discover how you can accomplish more by setting deadlines for your art business.
Accomplish More By Setting Deadlines For Your Art Business
How many times have you said to yourself:
- I will publish a post on Facebook later
- I will publish an image on Instagram after I am done with this
- I will write a blog post tomorrow
- I will answer emails tonight
How many times did the important tasks not get done?
Let’s be honest, selling art online takes a lot of work.
When you sell art you are operating a business.
You are not a hobbyist artist anymore.
In order for you to build and operate a successful art business, you have to learn how to be productive with your time.
Being productive with your time starts with planning.
Developing a plan and setting deadlines will help you to stay on track for what is important to your art business and everyday life.
It is easier for you to put things off if you just say, “I have to get this done.”
You might have good intentions to complete projects but that is all it is “good intentions.”
It is like saying “I have to clean the garage.”
Yes, having a clean, organized garage will make it easier for you to find things you are looking for, but it is easy to put that dreadful chore on the back-burner if you do not set a date for when you want it completed.
How easy would it be for you to go to the beach on a nice day than to stay in a dark dirty garage?
But if you say, “I must get the garage clean by a particular day”, you will get it done.
You will schedule the time that best fits your schedule and when you are relaxing on the beach you will have a sense of pride knowing all of your chores are done.
Art Business Deadlines
There are many jobs that you will have to address for your art business that is as fun as cleaning the garage.
They are dreadful projects but they are important to the success of your business.
Every task you have relating to your art business should have a deadline.
Especially if it is something you are not fond of doing, like accounting, or answering emails.
Take the time to schedule a deadline for all of your projects and when the time comes you will get the job done.
Life gets busy.
Setting deadlines for your business projects will help keep on track.
Schedule The Day Before
I keep a seven-day schedule in my planner that I look at every morning before I start working.
At the end of each day, I write out a schedule for the next day.
This makes it easier for me to get my day started.
I do not have to waste time deciding what I should get done for the day, it is already planned out for me.
Get in the habit of writing down what you would like to accomplish for the next day.
It could be one task or ten tasks, it doesn’t matter as long as you are realistic with your time.
Throughout the day check off what you have achieved and then write a new to-do list for the next day.
On top of the list should be everything that you need to get done on that day.
There will be things on the list that are not as important as others.
Prioritizing your list will motivate you to get the essential jobs done first.
Take some time today to set some deadlines for all of your projects for the upcoming week.
At the end of the night, write a to-do list for the next day and document when you will work on the projects.
Do this every day for one month.
At the end of the month, you will realize that you are getting everything done and you have extra time too spare.
Do Deadlines Ruin Creativity?
In my opinion, deadlines help creativity.
As I mentioned earlier, if you are selling art, you are operating a business.
There are responsibilities you will have to address throughout the week if you wish to have a thriving business.
Deadlines for your art business will reduce stress and allow you to be more creative when it is time to paint or draw.
Projects that you have overlooked will not pop in your head and distract you from your painting.
You will be able to focus more on your art project, knowing that you got everything on your to-do list done.
Does Setting A Deadline Really Help You To Achieve Your Goal Faster?
Setting deadlines will help you to achieve your goals faster because you are focused on getting specific projects done that will help you to reach your goals.
Scheduling a specific time that a project has to get done is part of the S.M.A.R.T. goal strategy.
You might not get everything done in the time you were hoping too, but you will be motivated to get the task done instead of putting it on the backburner.
It is difficult to accomplish everything throughout the day if you do not have a plan.
You can, however, accomplish more by setting deadlines for yourself.
Every task no matter how little the job is should have a deadline.
If you want to get something done, set a deadline.
Knowing how to promote your artwork is one thing taking action is another thing.
