Reasons Artists Should Blog

There are many reasons artists should blog.

If you are interested in selling art online, you will have to find a way to have your art noticed by people who are interested in your artistic style.

This can be done by developing a content marketing strategy that will attract your target audience and drive them to your site.

9 Reasons Artists Should Blog

Are you unhappy with the number of sales your artist website has been generating?

Are you becoming frustrated because the only people visiting your website are your friends and family?

There is good news. You can do something about it, and that is to start developing a content marketing strategy.

Let’s go over all of the benefits of having an art blog.

Share Your Art Blogging

The first of many reasons artists should blog is to have a platform where people can visit and see all of your creations.

Art will not sell just because you uploaded it on your website.

It would be like putting your latest artwork in your closet and wondering why no one has purchased it.

People have to see your art, and publishing blog posts that share the story behind your art will attract an audience interested in purchasing art like yours.

People are searching online every day for wildlife art, pet portraits, abstract art, traditional landscapes, figure art, etc.

The posts that you publish will be referred to your target audience in Google’s search results.

When those people click on your blog post, they will see your art and read the story behind your artwork.

Your blog posts connect your art with the viewer on a personal level, which will inspire them to visit your online gallery to enjoy more of your art.

Blogging Allows Potential Buyers To Get To Know You

Sharing your story via blogging allows potential art collectors to know the artist behind the art they relish.

After reading a few of your posts, they will start to feel as if they know you, and they will be able to connect with your artwork on a personal level.

When it is time for them to purchase an original or a giclee print, they will go to you first because they connect with you.

Over time they will become a part of your tribe. Your tribe is a group of people who support your art business, and they will share your work with everyone they know.

Blogs Build Authority

Writing blog posts that relate to your business and helps solve a problem is a great way to build a loyal art collector and is one of the main reasons artists should blog.

For example, if you write a blog post that explains how to:

  • Hang a painting
  • What colors work well in a room
  • What size painting to buy
  • How to frame a painting

The people who read those types of posts will continue to go to you for the help that they need, and they will also become aware of the artwork that you have for sale.

They will see you as an expert in your field, and they will feel more comfortable purchasing high ticked original artwork from an artist like you.

Building your authority will also increase the value of your artwork because you have build name recognition and your artwork will be in demand.

Blogs Connect You With Influencers

Most people who blog are very willing to help each other succeed.

You will an opportunity to find and build relationships with other artists and influencers.

Building relationships with other bloggers is a great way for you to build an audience quicker.

They will have suggestions to help you grow your business and you will be able to do the same for them.

Increase Return Visitors

Every business knows that selling to loyal customers is easier than finding new ones.

Trying to increase return visits is also true for artists selling art online.

Writing high-quality blog posts that interest your target audience will inspire them to revisit your blog regularly.

When you publish posts about your creative ideas, art in progress, and announce your upcoming craft fairs, your visitors will have more reason to stay on your site longer, sign up for your email list, and regularly return to your website.

Look at some more strategies I use to turn potential buyers into loyal art collectors.

Don’t forget to ask them to join your email list at the end of each post.

Here are some of my favorite email opt-in plugins for WordPress.

Blogs Increase Art Sales

Having an online art gallery where you upload your art for people to view and purchase is one thing.

Yes, the art description is the last selling point to convince a person to purchase your artwork.

But your blog is the perfect platform to drive traffic to your online art gallery or specific landing pages which will increase your art sales.

Some artists do very well, including videos on their art technique, while others do exceptionally well selling their art by explaining their creative process and inspirations about their artwork.

Ather successful artists have multiple revenue streams they use for their art blogs, helping them generate income while art sales are slow.

Here are some strategies I use to create passive income blogging.

Blogging Increases Social Followers

Social media is a platform where people go to socialize and to learn what is new with their favorite brands.

As you might have noticed, building a following on social media is a challenging sense of the new algorithm changes.

Facebook has made the most dramatic changes.

Take a look at how many people will see your Facebook page posts. You will be shocked.

But blog posts provide value, and when you turn a visitor into a loyal fan, they will be inspired to follow you on all of your social media accounts.

Just make sure that you have your social media follow buttons activated on your blog, so your readers can click and join.

I am not sure about other themes, but I know that StudioPress Themes For WordPress has an option for you to activate social follow buttons.

Blogging Creats New Opportunities

We have talked about artists using several income streams to supplement their income.

Some artists make extra money selling eBooks while others teach online classes.

Your art blog is a perfect way for you to get started with both opportunities before diving right in.

Many businesses and bloggers create smaller, detailed articles that can be gathered and put into one eBook.

Blogging regularly will improve your writing skills, and you will also discover what topics perform the best for your eBook project.

Online art magazines or art businesses will start to notice you online as you become more popular with your new projects.

There might come a time when a magazine asks you to write a post for their publication, or a business podcast asks you to do an interview.

Many opportunities will start to come in as long as you continue to blog and publish valuable content.

Blogging Separates You From Other Artists Selling Art Online

The last thing I would like to cover in this post is the importance of separating yourself from all of the other artists selling art online.

You have probably heard me say that art sales are increasing every year, which is great news for artists like us.

However, the competition continues to grow every day.

The only way you will have people discover you online is by separating yourself from all of the other artists.

One strategy is by telling your story.

One of the blogging intentions is to use your story to broaden your audience and connect them with your artwork.

Many artists struggle to write about themselves, which is understandable because artists tell their stories with visuals, not text.

However, the internet operates on text and content, not images.

Blogging will help you to:

  • Become better at telling your story over time. The good news about blogging is that you can revise your posts anytime. So as you become better at writing, you can revisit your older posts and edit them.
  • Discover how your artwork is unique
  • Make it easier for you to talk about art offline.

How To Make It As An Artist

In order for you to be successful at blogging, you need to have a plan.

I have written an eBook that breaks it all down for you into daily tasks.

I share with you everything I have learned about content marketing over the past years.

If you are interested in building a successful blog you might want to consider taking the challenge many other artists have taken.

Final Thoughts On Reasons Artists Should Blog

Many artists stop blogging to early because they do not see instant traffic going to their art gallery.

It takes time for every blog post to rank in Google search. Some expert bloggers say that a blog post can take up to six months before it starts to see any momentum.

How every once the ball starts rolling, your website will continue to receive traffic from that post for years to come.

Another reason some artists do not see the traffic they have hoped for is because they are not writing about topics people are searching for online.

Keyword research is so vital for the success of an artist blog.

It is knowing your target audience and understanding what type of content they are interested in is part of a successful content marketing strategy.

The artists who are driving thousands of people to their site every month learned about keyword research.

Selling fine art online starts with an art marketing plan, and content marketing is, by far, one of the essential marketing strategies that will help you to be discovered online.

If you are serious about selling your original artwork or prints online, you will want to spend time learning how to build a blog that will drive traffic to your site.

Learn from other successful artists and follow other artist blogs for inspiration.

Soon you will be selling art like a pro.
