5 Easy Tips To Beat Procrastination And Sell More Art
How nice would it be to sell enough art to pay for a family vacation or even better, pay all of your bills?
Every artist has different goals.
Some artists might want to sell art so they can enjoy yearly vacations.
Other artists might want to build an art career.
Working at home for yourself has many pros and cons.
Flexible work hours and having a career doing something you have a passion for are just a couple of the pros every selling artist enjoys.
One problem you might face during your journey is learning how to manage your time.
It is easy for people to put things off when they work at home. But the reality is if you do not work you will not generate an income.
How To Fight Procrastination
Below are 5 easy tips you can start implementing today that will help you beat procrastination so you can start selling more art.
Clear Your Brain
An easy way to beat procrastination is to simply clear your brain from the tasks you are in the middle of.
There will be times when you find yourself daydreaming at your computer when you are in the middle of writing an art blog post or staring out the window when you are in the middle of a painting.
It is difficult for most people to focus on a particular project for any length of time.
I have found that getting up and moving helps me to get more done when my brain starts to slow down during tasks like writing blog posts, creating newsletters, social media marketing or creating artwork.
I will simply get up stretch and walk into a different room.
Just by going into a different room to get a glass of water or cup of coffee will help me to recharge my brain.
Not only will taking a few minutes to move to help you to be more productive on your projects you will also see some health benefits from moving.
The body was not built to sit in front of a computer all day.
Get up and get the blood moving.
Put The Smartphone Down
How many times have you been distracted by your phone’s notification?
Smartphones can be a powerful tool for artists selling art online.
You can quickly answer emails, engage with your following on social media, record a video for YouTube and find a solution to any problem that arises.
The downside is that the Smartphone can easily become a time killer.
There have been many times I found myself scrolling through social media sites on my phone while I was in the middle of a project.
At the end of the day, I would be discouraged because I didn’t finish my to-do-list.
I soon realized how much time I was wasting on my phone.
Now when I am working on a project I turn off all of the notifications and I put the phone out of hands reach.
I allow myself a few minutes in between projects to see if there is anything I need to address.
You can easily beat procrastination by limiting the amount of time you are on your smartphone throughout the day.
Turn off all of the notifications and put your phone in a different room.
Take A Break
Schedule breaks during your workday.
Procrastination often begins when a project feels everlasting.
It is difficult to put your all in when you can not see the finish line.
A productive to-do-list should have scheduled breaks.
A ten or fifteen-minute break will help you to clear your head and have you return to work ready to go.
Small breaks will also help you to become more focused on your next task.
Make Yourself Accountable
You have to get your work done if you want to sell more art.
You can not sell art that is not created and people will not know you have art for sale if you do not take the time to market your products.
Documenting your goals and daily tasks will help you to hold yourself accountable.
It is easy to conveniently forget things that need to get done if you do not have them written down.
Make a list, get the list done and cross off completed projects.
You might also benefit from asking a close friend to help you stay accountable.
Create Something Every Day
The more you do something the more efficient you will become.
Schedule time every day to write and create artwork.
You do not have to spend hours every day on these tasks, but you will enhance your skills by working on them daily.
In time you will be creating art and writing content faster.
The more art you create and the more effective you are in marketing the more money you will make.
